“What is Proper for Saints?”
Ephesians 5:3-5

Every believer in Jesus Christ is set apart for God and His purposes and is thus called a saint throughout the New Testament.

The Saint’s Standard: No place for immorality (physical or spiritual) – vs4-5
– No hint at all of sexual immorality or covetousness (which is idolatry)
– The positive replacement of unclean speech is thanksgiving.

Two Ditches to Avoid
1) Antinomianism: the error of thinking there’s no role or place for obedience in the life of a Christian
2) Works-righteousness: the error of making our justification before God dependent on our obedience.
–The Bible teaches that justification is completely by faith alone in Jesus Christ, and good works and obedience are necessarily the evidence, testimony, and fruit of that faith.

Heed the Bible’s Warnings
v5b and v6b: sexual immorality and covetousness end in death.
v5a and v6a: Don’t be led astray by someone saying otherwise.
